What is startling about this sign: “Reserved for Expectant Mothers” is it’s outside Austin IT Innovation Center for General Motors. If you are up to snuff on the merits of transgenderism, you know that this is a politically incorrect sign. It should say: Reserved for Expectant People! O the callousness of GM! Oh the hardheartedness towards that poor man who is a woman and wants only to bear children. Oh the coldness towards that man who is waiting for science to make pregnant man no longer an oxymoron.
We are all sensitive to VS. I think it began when George Orwell in 1939 gave us “Judeo-Christian” values. Then after WWII and the pogrom against Judaism was exposed and the Four Chaplains’ moving story[i] was told, Judaism was brought into the fold. The really “with-it” towns added “or Synagogue” to the sign greeting visitors to their town inviting them to “Attend your favorite Church.” When most use the term Judeo, they are referring to modern Judaism. But modern Judaism, since circa 200 A.D. is pharisaic, Talmudic Judaism. Old Testament Judaism, Mosaic Judaism, via Christianity did influence Western morals, culture, art and life. Pharisaic-Talmudic Judaism did not. Well in no positive way.
But when we talk about the roots of America, ethics, morals, we’re obliged to say “Judeo-Christian”. Just like we say “he, she” and “him, her” so as not to offend feminists, overt or hidden. Though “man” is the historic way of referring to mankind (It has to with Adam and the naming of male and female as well as all mankind being dead in the first Adam but alive in the Second.), we will say chairperson, firefighters, cops, and flight attendants as well as servers just to avoid references to ‘man’ that might be hurtful.
In our day to day speech, we’re doing what amounts to hyphenating our kids’ name. As someone pointed out to me, that can’t go beyond two marriages. Maybe not even then. If Smith-Jones have a son whose bride to be Harris wants in on the action, you have Smith-Jones-Harris. If she herself is a hyphenated child, you got yourself a regular legal firm name.
So stopping to say ‘he/she’ and ‘him/her’ we’re not only muddying up the water of communication, but we are signaling that we got the memo. Same thing when we call a man ‘she’ or ‘they’ or a woman ‘he’ or ‘them’. We let the trans ‘community’ know, we’re in solidarity with their reordering (really a denying) of reality.
If it turns out that the Washington Times August 2, 2024 headline “Woman-beating is not an Olympic Sport” proves right, we’re seeing the extent the with-it people are willing to go with this lunacy. But we’ve not reached the limits. And we will help them get there, or at least let them know we’re okay with the direction they’re going, by adopting their way of speaking. As George Orwell teaches us in 1984 change how people speak and you will eventually change how they think.
